----------------------------------------------------------------- Carl's Crazy Protein Shake 1999 Ingredients: 1 tbsp. creamed papaya (Knudsen) 2/3 cup plain kefir (Lifeway lowfat plain) 2/3 cup fresh orange juice (Horizon organic w/pulp) 2/3 cup aloe juice (George's "Always Active") 1 ripe banana or pear (organic and/or local if possible) 2 tsp. hemp oil (Spectrum) 1 tsp. spirulina powder (Earthrise Spirulina Gold) 1 tsp. chlorella powder (Sun Chlorella A) 1 tbsp. flax or psyillium fiber 40 gr. microfiltered Whey protein (Biochem Whey Pro 290) Directions: Put the first five ingredients in a blender and blend at a medium-low speed for a few seconds. Then add the rest of the ingredients with the blender still running. After all ingredients are in, blend at a medium-high speed for a few seconds, and serve. The finished product should not be too thick to drink quickly. After making it a few times, it should be easy to eyeball the amounts, and adjust the consistency to suit. Notes: This drink is a complete meal, containing healthy portions of vitamins, minerals, protein, fat, simple carbohydrates, fiber, enzymes, and friendly micro-organisms. It is quick and easy to make, eat, and digest. The ingredients require a large initial investment, but go a long way and are well- behaved on the shelf. If you can make any of the ingredients yourself (grow your own pears, kefir, etc.), do it. For the ingredients you have to buy, the best products are shown in parenthesis. You should eat the shake on an empty stomach immediately after making it. It's a great snack, supplement for weight lifting, or meal replacement for individuals who spend a lot of their day sitting. You shouldn't replace more than one meal a day, though, and be sure to drink enough water. Finally, the stuff is hell on your teeth; always brush after you eat it!
